She
Said: Can yall remember back to when rap was about being the
freshest MC, having the dopest rhymes or even the flyest ladies (no, not
b*tches, but ladies)? Back when Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock rapped lyrics like:
I'm Rob Base and I came to get down
I'm not internationally known
But I'm known to rock the microphone
Because I get stupid, I mean outrageous
Stay away from me if you're contagious
'Cause I'm the winner, no, I'm not the loser
To be an M.C. is what I choose-a
Ladies love me, girls adore me
I mean even the ones who never saw me
Like the way that I rhyme at a show
The reason why, man, I don't know
A generation
of young men who couldn't tell you the first thing about real love, but can
tell everything you need to know about sex, drugs & money. Have we lost our way? Have we forgotten the
struggle those who paved the way before us endured so that we could speak
freely or have we played into the pygmalion effect and truly became as ignorant
as they once thought us to be? #KaySayWhaaat
What do you
think about the direction of Hip Hop music and its influence on young men &
women?
He Said: In talking about the ethics of Hip Hop and how
it has given the image of our culture some of the most degraded thoughts, I
would like to touch on the fact that I am not anti-music nor self expression.
I love different genre's including Hip Hop. However, I am more
accustomed to the conscious rapper that shines light on what goes on in the
hoods of America but also, does not make it seem like its the only and right
way of life. There are elements and topics in music that should be met,
but as we observe some of the lyrics of rappers like Chief Keef who rap lyrics
like:
You aint
gonna let me fuck and I feel you,
But you gone
suck my dick or I’ll kill you!
I may not be the most religious but I
do know CHRIST and I do know that as a father and a man that has came from
nothing to something I will not allow my son to listen and idolize the images
these rappers depict because I will work as hard as I can to let him see the
positive icons that encompass what it means to be a gentleMAN is and not a
hoodNIGGA..... #ButYouDontHearMeTho
What can we
do as parents to protect the next generation from the downward spiral music has
taken over the years?

I can't believe how far yet so off course Hip Hop has become. I will never buy a Chief Keef album or support his music! I am at a total loss for words. I am happy you all didnt just bring up an issue, but you also gave a solution with the video. I loved the message of the song will download when I get home. Thanks yall for bringing this positive message to light!

Adolf Hitler once said he can control a nation by controlling the music of the youth. The same powers that be that told Too Short he could't put out a more conscious album hold much of the responsibility in what is pushed through the media machine. It's been talked about much before, but Kanye recently shed light on the private prison system and how it profits off hip-hop. The consumer controls the market at the end of the day. If everybody started eating at home, eventually restaurants would start to close down.
ReplyDeleteSome might say "it's just music" or "it's just Twitter" when you question the morality of it all. Some people listen to music, other's emulate it. Different people have different views/values and act accordingly. What we see and hear, overall, is an accurate depiction of society as it stands. I don't foresee this as a gets worse before it gets better scenario.
